I want to share something with you that sure helped me.
My therapist said to me the other day, “It’s Okay” and it stopped me in my tracks. I was going on and on about how I “should” be doing things or perhaps what I should be doing differently and she said, “What you are doing is okay.”

It was in that moment that I felt my body soften and relax. It’s okay. How I was going about my journey was the way I needed to and there is no right or wrong way, there is only my way, and it is okay.
I think we put so much pressure on ourselves to live up to other’s standards, do and act like how others are doing and acting. Somehow, we feel there is a right way and a wrong way of getting through big things. But in reality, there is no right and wrong way, just our way.
I feel like we get so caught up in trying to keep up with mainstream media and the families that seem to have their lives together and that makes us feel like we have fallen short. But have we fallen short? Do those families we are comparing our journeys to really have it all together or is that simply the highlight reel? We can never know.
You need to stay in bed because you are exhausted and worn out and just need a day to do nothing and take care of nothing? It’s okay.
You need to end a relationship with someone who is not bringing out the best in you, themselves or others around you? It’s okay.
You want to go on a trip and need to sacrifice other plans so you can afford to go? It’s okay.
You need to go back to school so you can better your life but you are scared as hell? It’s okay.
You need to tell someone you are struggling and you don’t know how to get through another day? Please know, its okay to tell someone.
It is when we tell ourselves that what we are doing is not okay that we hurt ourselves and our self-confidence. We start to break ourselves down and internally, we struggle and then, sometimes the mask comes on and we portray that we are okay when in fact, we are so far away from being okay.
We need to know that we can do what we have to do to make our life and our family’s life better. As long as we are being a good human and not hurting others in a malicious way, it’s okay. Turn off the scrolling and comparing our life to others. Look around us and see what we have and find that gratitude for it.
Because, what we are doing, how we are navigating this crazy and often, hard life… is okay.
