Unfortunately, in any profession, there are people who are not legitimate, ethical, honest, or true. In most professions, you can usually spot them because they are providing something tangible, something you can physically see. You can see the quality of their work and the knowledge they carry.
With mediumship, it is no different.
Let’s look at unethical mediumship
Unfortunately and heartbreakingly, there are some mediums who are not legitimate, ethical, honest, or true. And that creates distrust for many people. Honestly, that makes complete sense to me.

The difficult part with mediumship is that it is not always easy to spot the people who are not working for Spirit and love. You can’t physically see what is happening. You can only witness the experience. Because of that, it can feel harder to trust, and that is truly sad.
But there are mediums, like myself, who care deeply about working ethically and with integrity. That is why I wanted to speak about this today, because it’s an important conversation.
There is a belief that mediums take your name, email address, or personal information and spend time researching you, looking you up, and learning all about your life beforehand.
Who has time for that? Certainly not me.
The truth is, a medium wants to know as little as possible about you. If a medium goes searching or researching your life beforehand, their own thinking mind can begin interfering with the connection. The mind starts analyzing, trying to piece things together logically, instead of allowing Spirit to communicate naturally.
As mediums, we truly want very little information. We are working without knowledge, without details, and without preparation. We are working with the love of Spirit, bringing forward messages, memories, validation, connection, and evidence that our loved ones are still with us.
When a medium connects with Spirit, we work incredibly hard to move out of the active thinking mind and into a place of quiet connection and presence. We blend with Spirit and feel their love. We open ourselves to the senses, love and connection that come through, and then we try our best to find the words to communicate that experience clearly.
Mediums work with very vulnerable people. People place their hearts, grief, hope, and trust into our hands. That is an incredible honour and responsibility. And truly, it is one of the most beautiful experiences in the world.
What to keep in mind
So the next time you wonder if a medium wants to research you beforehand, think about this.
Most of us actually become more nervous when we know too much. Doing a reading for someone you know personally can already feel challenging because the mind naturally wants to step in. That takes tremendous trust in Spirit already. Why would we want to jumble our minds even more by researching people beforehand?
When looking for a medium, look into who they trained with and how long they have been developing. Read their writing. Listen to how they speak about Spirit. Read their reviews.
Trust your own intuition too. If something feels ego driven, performative, or more about showmanship than care and connection, it is okay to pass that by.
And if you are truly worried, use a different name when booking. It really is that simple.
