Grief and Guilt

Guilt can be one of grief’s cruelest companions. It whispers, ‘What if they are mad at me?’, ‘What if I did not do enough?’, ‘What if they don’t want to come through?’, ‘What if my loved one is disappointed in me?’

How painful are those thoughts? They are very real and common worries, and ones that I, along with many other mediums, hear often.

Let’s talk about that.

Our loved ones in Spirit don’t carry heavy emotions

The truth is, when our loved ones pass into Spirit and return Home, they are no longer carrying the heavy human emotions we experience here, such as fear, anger, resentment, hostility, sadness, worry, inadequacy, or judgment. These are human experiences tied to our physical lives, our pain, our limitations, and the lessons we are here to navigate.

When we return Home in Spirit form, we return to pure love. We return to an energy that is expansive, peaceful, and deeply understanding. Our loved ones are embraced in that love, and from that place, they do not hold onto anger or disappointment the way we fear they might. They know love in its purest form.

Knowing love in its purest form

Because our loved ones never truly leave us, they continue to see us. They see our hearts, our struggles, our pain, and even the beliefs we carry about ourselves that keep us stuck in our guilt, anger or fear. They understand us in ways that are difficult for us to fully comprehend here in human form. They see where we tried our best. They see where we made mistakes. They understand why we made the choices we did, even when those choices caused hurt. Most importantly, they see our regret, our sorrow, and our longing for a different outcome.

Even the moments where we may have hurt them, intentionally or unintentionally, are seen through a way of pure understanding and love. Spirit sees the bigger picture. They see our wounds, our fears, and the experiences that shaped us. What may feel unforgivable to us often makes complete sense to them from the perspective of love. And Spirit is Love.

So, when people ask me, ‘Are they angry with me?’ the answer is always no.

They love you.

They want what is best for you. They want you to release the hurt, guilt, and the fear you have been carrying. They want to see you live. They want to see you love. They want you to experience this life fully because, truly, they have only gone on ahead.

We are all going to the same place eventually, and when your time comes, they will be there with open arms and a love so incredibly beautiful, pure, and perfect that words could never fully capture it.

That love remains, always, just for you.

If someone you love is carrying guilt in their grief, please share this with them. Sometimes one small reminder can soften a very heavy heart.
